Just inside the door and down a flight of stairs, a magical world awaits you. La Val's Subterranean (The Sub) is a 60-seat venue that once boasted live music in the 60s, 70s, and 80s. Since the early 90s, it has been the east bay's hidden gem of a black box theater, where so many playwrights, actors, directors, and more had their earliest successes.

Once home to Bay Area companies such as Shotgun Players, Impact Theatre, and Subterranean Shakespeare, the Sub is now leased and operated by Theatre Lunatico, producing its own work and making the space available to other theater artists and the community at large.

The Sub is literally underground theater. What could be better?
