Just inside the door and down a flight of stairs, a magical world awaits you. La Val's Subterranean (The Sub) is a 60-seat venue that once boasted live music in the 60s, 70s, and 80s. Since the early 90s, it has been the east bay's hidden gem of a black box theater, where so many playwrights, actors, directors, and more had their earliest successes.<\/p>\n\n
Once home to Bay Area companies such as Shotgun Players, Impact Theatre, and Subterranean Shakespeare, the Sub is now leased and operated by Theatre Lunatico<\/a>, producing its own work and making the space available to other theater artists and the community at large.<\/p>\n\n The Sub is literally underground theater.
